Neue Galerie New York is actively researching the provenance histories of its holdings and making this information available to the public. The museum engages in this research using guidelines established by the American Association of Museums regarding the unlawful appropriation of objects. Research on individual works with incomplete provenance is ongoing, with current information posted under each object’s listing in the museum's collection database; updates will be posted there as they become available.
In addition to this, the museum regularly publishes provenance information about works of art in its collection in a number of its exhibition catalogues.
Neue Galerie New York shares in the commitment of the museum community to assist with the discovery and return of unlawfully appropriated objects. There are a number of online resources listed below that can provide further information on provenance research and restitution issues.
