Otti Berger: Weaving for Modernist Architecture

Karl Hubbuch (1891–1979) gehört wie Max Beckmann, George Grosz und Otto Dix zu den sogenannten Veristen der Neuen Sachlichkeit. Bekannt wurde er vor allem mit seinen Zeichnungen, teils bitter ironische Gesellschaftsallegorien, teils hoch sensible Portraits und Charakterstudien. Hubbuch war als Freiwilliger in den Ersten Weltkrieg gezogen und wie viele seiner Künstlerfreunde desillusioniert und fürs Leben gezeichnet zurückgekehrt. Seine Professur an der Karlsruher Kunstakademie verlor er mit der Machtergreifung der Nazis 1933. Als „entartet“ verfemt, fristete er sein Dasein in innerer Emigration als Porzellanmaler.
