Gustav Klimt Women Notecard Set

$20.95

Austrian painter Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) is renowned for his provocative allegories, contemplative landscapes, and most of all for his sensuous portraits of women. Klimt himself expressed a special preoccupation with women above all other subjects.

Included in this boxed set are reproductions of Klimt's most acclaimed female portraits. Klimt's style matured over the course of his career from ethereal and feminine depictions, to examples in his so-called "golden style," and to later works that show his fascination with color, decorative ornament and his admiration of Asian art. Painted between 1901 and 1918, these pictures capture how his sitters evolved from keepers of the domestic realm to modern women, who embraced life with greater agency and self-determination. Together, they convey a sense of Klimt's obsession with the allure and intrigue of women, and their appreciation of his ability to transform them into icons of feminine beauty and grace.

Images include:
Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I (detail), 1907
Portrait of Amalie Zuckerlandl (detail), 1917-18 (unfinished, and possibly started as early as 1913-14)
